EQUITONE Cladding Fixings

EQUITONE® fibre cement rainscreen panels come in two thicknesses: 8mm and 12mm, and the right fixing depends on which you are working with. What EQUITONE® Panels are Available?

EQUITONE® manufacture several fibre cement panel ranges, each with a distinct surface texture and finish. The range includes Natura, Natura Pro Coated, Tectiva, Pictura, Pictura Pro Coated, Lunara and Linea. All are manufactured from through-colored fibre cement, which is why color-matched fixings make such a visible difference - the fixing head sits against a material with no surface coating of its own to hide behind. Whichever range your project specifies, the fixings and installation tools on this page are designed to work with the full EQUITONE® system.

EQUITONE® Natura is one of the most widely specified ranges in the system, available in two finishes: Natura with a light sanded natural texture, and Natura PRO with an additional anti-graffiti layer for high-traffic or public environments. Popular color references include N252 (light grey), N162 (anthracite black), N074 (warm beige) and N073 (contemporary white). All can be matched exactly.

Which rivet do I need for my EQUITONE® panel?

EQUITONE® specifies aluminium/stainless large flange dome head rivets for face-fixing panels to both metal and timber subframes. The rivet you need depends on your panel thickness:

  • 8mm EQUITONE® panels - 4 x 18 x 15mm rivet. Suitable for Tectiva, Natura, Natura Pro Coated, Pictura, Pictura Pro Coated, Lunara and Linea.
  • 12mm EQUITONE® panels - 4 x 25 x 15mm rivet. Suitable for Natura, Natura Pro Coated, Pictura, Pictura Pro Coated, Lunara and Linea.

Both rivets have a 15mm large flange head and 4mm body diameter. If you are unsure which panel thickness you are working with, check your EQUITONE® installation guide or call us before ordering.

Both rivets are available unpainted or color-matched in Standard, Gloss, Woodgrain, Metallic or Chameleon finishes. Allow 3 to 4 working days for painted orders.

Which screws are specified for EQUITONE® panels?

For EQUITONE® panels fixed to timber substructures, A4 stainless steel low profile screws are the specified fixing. A4 grade (316 stainless) is specified rather than A2 because EQUITONE® panels are widely used on coastal and high-humidity projects where higher corrosion resistance is required. All screws can be color-matched to your panel finish, with paint applied to the head only to keep the thread clean for full engagement.

What installation tools do I need?

Four components are needed for a correct EQUITONE® installation:

  • Centralising drilling tool: Two versions are available, depending on your subframe. The 10.5 x 4.1mm tool is for metal subframes, with a 10.5mm nose diameter that produces 11mm sliding point holes. The 6.5 x 3mm tool is for timber subframes, drilling a 3mm pilot hole concentric to the 7mm sliding point. Each tool is supplied with a replacement drill bit, with further replacements available separately.
  • Carbide drill bits: Available in 7mm x 34mm and 11mm x 47mm. Carbide is required for drilling through fibre cement panels. Do not use HSS bits on fibre cement as they will not hold tolerance and may crack the panel face.
  • Rivet setting nose piece - K15: Attaches to your powered rivet tool and ensures each rivet is set exactly 0.3mm away from the panel face, the gap EQUITONE® requires to allow for panel thermal movement.
  • Nylon rivet spacers - available for both 8mm and 12mm panels. The green spacer bushes increase the rivet diameter to fill sliding-point holes; the red bushes convert sliding points into fixed points where required.

A single sided foam tape is also available for application to subframe rails that hold the panels in place.

Can my EQUITONE® fixings be color-matched?

Every rivet and screw in this range can be factory painted to match your EQUITONE® panel finish exactly, whether that is a standard RAL or BS color, a through-color Natura shade, or a bespoke paint-to-sample match.
